2022-2025 Observable Universe Artist-in-Residence, River Takada!
River Takada is the daughter of Kazuko, the granddaughter of her Obachan, Nobuko. River is a Japanese American fiber artist and sewing instructor living in Durham, NC.
"My residency at Observable Universe will allow me to delve deeper into the world of textile arts and connect with the community. The main theme of this residency is Quilting. From the practical use of creating blankets, to the more artistic practice of combining intricate shapes using scraps; quilting has always been a way to connect with the past and create something meaningful in the present. Through workshops and collaborative projects, I look forward to sharing my studio process, while also creating events for the community."
